Matching license plate numbers confirm the van found at the bottom of the Ohio river Tuesday night in Evansville was the same van used as a getaway car in an Owensboro murder.
Evansville police along with Evansville and Perry Township fire crews pulled a red dodge minivan from the bottom of the Ohio river around 5 p.m. It's the van they believe Brock Hanley left a Shell gas station in, after robbing, shooting and killing the station's clerk.
Evansville police have been assisting the Daviess County Sheriff's Department since Monday morning when Hanley was spotted on the run in Evansville.
They started searching the river this morning after a barrier ball at the lower point of dress plaza on Evansville's riverfront was noticeably missing.
Sonar and magnetic equipment led divers to the van a few hundred yards away from the entry point, 11 feet under water.
Daviess County Investigators will pick up the van from Evansville's crime scene unit Wednesday morning.
