Monday, Mar 19, 2007 @03:29pm EDT Jon SwanerWeekend Anchor / Reporter Our weekend anchor definitely believes in the power of suggestion! While attending ISU and working on a nursing degree, someone told him that his voice was tailor-made for broadcasting. After a few more comments, Jon Swaner made the switch to a degree in Radio-TV-Film. Jon found work in the radio-TV fields easily during college. He did play-by-play basketball and baseball announcing for the college station WISU. At the same time, he worked for WTHI-AM 1480 doing newscasts and more play-by-play football and basketball announcing. His work was recognized and used by Network Indiana. Jon also interned at WTHI-TV and worked there briefly after graduation. Since coming to WTWO in 2000, Jon has done a little bit of everything. Along with his duties as the weekend news anchor, Jon also covers news out of the Terre Haute city and Vigo county government offices. He is a “one man band” reporter – shooting, writing and editing his own work. He has produced the weekend shows, shot sports video and has filled in as an anchor for all newscasts seen on WTWO. He has covered stories ranging from the execution of Timothy McVeigh to the death of Gov. Frank O’Bannon to tax issues to public health concerns. In 2000, Jon was the sole recipient of the Indiana Public Health Association’s Media Award. Jon enjoys traveling, and in the summer of 2002, he began a feature called, “One-Tank Trips,” where he and his family embark on short adventures in hopes of showing affordable, family-friendly trips that are within an easy driving distance. Since its debut, the series has taken them to numerous state parks, zoos, caves, museums and other fun destinations in five states: IN, IL, MI, MO and KY. “One-Tank Trips” airs on Wednesdays from late May through December. Jon is a native of Robinson, Illinois. In high school he was a three-time State Track Medalist his senior year. Jon and his wife Kim have one daughter, Cami, and two dogs: Hershey and Flash. Jon says his favorite part of his job is meeting so many interesting people around the Wabash Valley. Click to email Jon. |
