  • Valley Child’s Pictures Banned From MySpace
    Reported by: Sarah Fortune

    Wednesday, Aug 20, 2008 @09:17pm EDT

From violence to nudity on MySpace you can find images of just about anything. However, pictures of one Valley child are banned. His parents were informed the images were too “offensive” according to MySpace.com.

"Regardless of what he looks like he’s still a child he's not a monster," said Billy McComb, BJ’s father.

BJ was severely burned in a house fire when he was only 18 months old. “They kept telling us he wasn’t going to survive but he did. He kept fighting and kept getting better and better. He had all sorts of infections and he made it through all of it. He made it for seven years, well almost seven years,” said BJ’s mother Karlyn McComb.

Pictures are all BJ’s parents Billy and Karlyn of Sullivan have left. “Because he’s gone we don’t have many pictures left of him from before the fire. Every picture that we have is like gold to us,” said Billy.

Each picture posted on Karlyn’s MySpace page told a story. “This picture here shows him eating. This is his first meal after the fire. The hospital told us he would never be able to eat. So, these pictures are everything to us,” said Karlyn.

The picture of BJ’s first meal was one of the many pictures deleted and banned from the site. “We were so excited when he started to get better we just went picture crazy! These pictures are not offensive. They’re very very special,” said Karlyn.

However, BJ's pictures aren't ‘special’ to everyone. A complaint led to MySpace deleting them from Karlyn’s private profile.

Karlyn read us the letter she received regarding her son’s images. “It says, ‘you may feel singled out but be assured we delete each and every one of these images as we locate them.’"

MySpace is threatening to delete Karlyn’s entire profile if she reposts her son’s pictures. BJ’s parents are both upset because they're the ones who feel violated.

Karlyn said, "Personally I would like for them to apologize to us first of all. But not just to me but to BJ and say, ‘you're not offensive and we're sorry that we ever thought that.’"

MySpace isn't apologizing below is a copy of the response WTWO received from MySpace.com:

Hello, If the profile or content was removed by MySpace, it was because there was a violation(s) of our Terms of Service which can include a number of issues (inappropriate images, spam, cyberbullying, underage use, etc).
