Before Terre Haute House was demolished, South band director Tim Murphy asked to look for musical artifacts.
"I called my wife and we dropped everything and went down there and just had a great time getting to see something that a lot of people didn't ever get the chance to see."
And Terre Haute House dot net was born. He's not affiliated with Terre Haute House past or present. The first pictures he took led to the name.
Murphy began expanding his website as downtown began it's rebirth.
"We continued with demolition photos and then construction photos of the new hotel, and now we've branched out and we cover all the downtown development."
An amateur photographer, this is a labor of love. Chronicling the building boom. Sharing it all, free of charge.
"It's sort of a creative outlet for me. I do music 24 hours a day already, so I'm kind of looking for another outlet. But the main reason is that its sharing with other people the good things that are happening here."
He's taken about ten-thousand photos, about six-thousand are on the site.
Click a section for photos. Sometimes a history lesson. Did you know this recently renovated block at the Crossroads of America had a name?
(Dan: "You called that the Kauffman block. I'd never heard that.") "Well, I hadn't either. I always said where Fannie Mae is."
Tim loves photographing a project from start to finish.
The old Tribune building, now the Candlewood Suites, A third floor hall shot, before.....and after.
Updates are easy to find. The archives deep. From old to renovated to new. And there's more on the way. The current Federal Building, the old county jail, and more.
