Reported by: David Shepherd Saturday, Mar 14, 2009 @07:24pm EDT Local politicians met with their constituents Saturday in Terre Haute for a Crackerbarrel meeting.
The purpose of the meetings is to allow legislators hear from people in their district. Among the hot button issues were the closing of Vigo County Library branches, property tax caps and unemployment. Most of the legislators were Democrats, but Representative Bruce Borders, a Republican, was also on the panel. He drew criticism from the crowd as he explained why he supports making property tax caps permanent. House Democrats have criticized Governor Mitch Daniels and other Republicans for their support of the caps. They say permanent tax caps would cause local governments to cut vital services. Borders disagrees. |
