Vigo County fourth and fifth graders were in a heated battle Friday.

Fayette Elementary hosted the annual Battle of the Books competition. Each elementary school entered a team.

Throughout the school year students read a series of books. Teachers come up with a list of questions from those books and on Friday the students were quizzed.

Sally Carpenter is the Library Media Specialist at Fayette Elementary. She says everyone comes out a winner in this competition. “Even if you lose a game you haven't lost what you've learned. You've read a list of really great books. You've adventured into worlds you never would dream of. You've learned skills of working together as a team and meeting people from all over the school corporation.”

Dixie Bee Elementary won the 2009 Battle of the Books.
