  • Ellsworth on Health Care Reform
    Reported by: David Shepherd

    Monday, Jul 6, 2009 @03:46pm EDT

Lawmakers in Washington continue to struggle to fix America’s health care system. Meanwhile, Congressman Brad Ellsworth was in the Valley Monday with that same goal in mind.

President Obama is stepping up pressure on Congress to pass health care reform; an issue that played a big part in his campaign. Congressman Brad Ellsworth says he knows it's a problem that needs to be fixed. The big question is, how and at what cost?

"When the American people decide something needs to happen --- nothing can stop us. So I hope you'll join me," the President urged last week. President Obama’s campaign concentrated largely on health care in America. Now, lawmakers are trying to make that promise a reality.

Ellsworth hopes to bring quality health care to more Americans.

“More hard working people receive health insurance they deserve," Ellsworth said.

Many lawmakers say the issue of health care reform is critical to the health and safety of the American people.

"They are finally moving this forward," stated the congressman. "People want to know what it's going to look like, what it's going to cost the United States, what it's going to cost the American people."

That cost may have to be passed on to the American people. White House advisers won't rule out a tax on some health care benefits.

Congressman Ellsworth wants to avoid racking up more debt.

He said, "I'd like to see that this program is paid for, that it's not somebody rolling out dollars on a machine and saying, 'we're just going to add that to the national debt."
