Reported by: Sarah Fortune Friday, Jan 11, 2008 @03:16pm EST Flooding has already caused minor damage to numerous agriculture areas this year. The current high water is still under control.
"All the bottom lands are flooded. The crest is suppose to occur sometime between Sunday and Monday at about 24.2 feet which is not going to do that much more damage than it already has," said Kirt Lowry a public information officer. When it comes to floods there are some things you should do and some things you should never do. "Have some basic necessities on hand, canned goods, a radio and monitor the situation. Never drive through water you never know what is under there, so just don’t do it,” said J.D. Kesler with the Vigo County Emergency Management. The Wabash River is currently under 20 feet and on the rise. "It is not what we would consider a major event it actually falls in the minor flooding stage and is not expected to go above that," said Kesler. There have not been houses affected by the flood but the situation will continue to be monitored. "Flood insurance is always a good idea for anybody who is prone even to a 100-year flood," said Lowry. |
