Reported by: Katie Shane Wednesday, Oct 21, 2009 @03:35pm EDT The Wabash Valley Correctional Facility Advisory Board was presented information on a partnership between the correctional facility and Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
The BMV set up a mobile office at the prison. Inmates are offered the chance to receive a state issued ID card. More than 1,200 IDs have been issued in Indiana since May 2009. "In Indiana we release about 19-thousand inmates per year to one of 92 counties and there are barriers and one of those is employment and you can't get a job without a state issued ID card," said Program Director David Burch. "So anything we can do prior to release for those inmates that are coming out we want to do that." More than 100 ID cards are issued each day through the mobile unit. |
