Reported by: Tom McClanahan Wednesday, Nov 4, 2009 @04:21pm EST Every kindergarten student at Terre Town School was a "star" Wednesday.
Each one received a book that featured their name as the main character. It's a program that was started by local realtor Betty Lanke several years ago. Books like these have been distributed to every school in the county. The program is made possible by four major sponsors, including Lanke. Terre Town Principal Cinda Taylor says it's great for the students, "When they open it and see their own name on every page it's so exciting and honestly they can't wait to read the whole thing." Mary Woods of one of the sponsors, Terre Haute Savings Bank, says "We're involved with education and supporting the schools every chance we get." The other sponsors include the Vigo County Education Foundation and Terre Haute Regional Hospital. |
