A new bar in Terre Haute is offering everything the other bars don't. "It offers a place downtown for people that don't go to the bars or are too young," said Manager Kate Ward. "It offers a casual environment where you can just sit and hangout with friends." The hookah lounge at Smoke-n-Peace opened last Friday. Ward says opening weekend was overwhelming. "It was like slammed," she said. "We were packed in here on Friday, it was a good response." Hookah is tar-free flavored tobacco with only a small amount of nicotine. It originated in India. The lounge offers traditional flavors like apple and peach. You can also pick something unique like champagne or mocha. It's similar to smoking cigars or cigarettes, but those who smoke hookah say there's no comparision. "It is a type of tobacco, but it is nothing like cigarettes," said Catey Condon. "That's what i thought of when i first heard about it." And with tobacco prices on the rise, hookah is very affordable. "It's easily affordable for college students," Catey said. "Lord knows we don't have any money." The lounge is open to anyone over 18 years old. Guests are free to bring music, food or drinks; making it a great alternative to bars. "It's a more relaxed environment," Catey said. "You don't have to sit there and get drunk you just sit and smoke and relax." Smoke-n-Peace is open everyday. Sunday through Wednesday till 9. Thursday through Saturday they close at midnight. |
