A total of ten defendants were sentenced Wednesday and Thursday. In court Thursday five Terre Haute residents were given prison time and fines. 41 year old Melissa Hutchens was sentenced to 10 years. Terre Haute resident Melissa Swayze was given the smallest punishment; a total of two years. West Terre Haute resident David Lindsay was given 17 years and Dewayne Phelps was sentenced to 20 years. The largest sentence was passed down to meth distributor Jason Bays. He will spend almost 30 years behind bars. The two leaders of the drug ring, Vicki Shaw and Robyn Welker have signed plea deals. They are expected to be sentenced next year. |
