The Laborers are one of the fastest-growing unions in North America.  Laborers fight for more opportunity for workers and employers, and for better wages, good benefits and safe job sites. Laborers-Pics-10a2007-07-17-1184687355.gif

Laborers build everything from skyscrapers to tunnels. Laborers make buildings safe by removing hazardous materials like asbestos and lead. Laborers serve the public in hospitals and government across the continent. Laborers unite for the voice we deserve in important political issues.

Members run the union, electing officers at all levels and participation in the day-to-day affairs of their local unions. Members set priorities for contacts and are the key in the union's growth and success at increasing market square.

The mission of the Laborers is implemented through nine regions, 55 district councils, and more than 500 local unions. Workers are members of local unions, and local unions work together in district councils, which are assisted by regional offices.

Since its creation in 1903, the Laborers Union have grown from its 8,000 members then to its more than 700,000 members today.

    The L.I.U.N.A. Difference

From pay to training to retirement, LIUNA members live better.

THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY DRIVES OUR INDUSTRY

The construction industry employs nearly 10 million workers and typically accounts for 5 percent of the annual gross domestic product of the U.S. – more than most other sectors of the economy, including agriculture, mining, transportation and utilities.

ORGANIZING – HELPING WORKING MEN AND WOMEN JOIN TOGETHER FOR BETTER LIVES

Organizing and growth is a matter of survival – not just for LIUNA, but for a decent standard of living for the millions of workers who help build America.

    POLITICAL MOBILIZATION

Mobilizing for a strong voice in government and politics is how the workers who build America have a say in the issues that affect their lives.

A LAW CALLED DAVIS – BACON…IT BUILDS OUR MIDDLE CLASS

It’s not dinner table conversation, but it helps put dinner on the table. The Davis-Bacon Act of 1931 is a tried-and-true policy that prevents federally-funded construction projects from driving down local area wage standards.

INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT – TO COMPETE, AMERICA MUST REBUILD ITS INFRASTRUCTURE

For America to continue to compete we must strengthen our infrastructure and build the next generation of roads, schools, waterways, airports, subways and railways.

RETIREMENT SECURITY – THOSE WHO BUILD AMERICA DESERVE A DIGNIFIED RETIREMENT

LIUNA has been at the forefront of creating and protecting today’s retirement system. With both defined-benefit pension plans and Social Security under attack, our country is facing a retirement security crisis.

HEALTH CARE – THE HEALTH CARE CRISIS NEEDS A PERMANENT CURE
We’ve had enough of talking about the health care crisis – it’s time for action.

IMMIGRATION – FAIR AND REALISTIC IMMIGRATION REFORM

LIUNA was formed more than a century ago by immigrants struggling for citizenship and a better life. Those proud workers helped build America.

    FAIR TRADE

Current trade policy is an attack on the workers who build America.
