About Open Door
The Open Door was founded in 1984 by Doris Farmer. The original location was in the Honey Creek Mall with a space of 1800 square feet. In 1993 the Open Door moved to the present location. That same year Doris Farmer sold the business to Ron and Diana Forster. In 1998 a major addition provided the floor space to reach a total of 9000 square feet.
The staff of the Open Door was honored in 1994 by the Christian Booksellers' Association by being chosen to be the regional bookstore of the year. In 1995 Christian Retailing magazine recognized the Open Door as being in the top 100 Christian bookstores in the nation. The 2003 publication listed the Open Door as being ranked at thirty-third in the nation among independently-owned Christian bookstores.
The Open Door is committed to providing the western Indiana and eastern Illinois population--and now the entire United States--with the finest in Christian products. These products will be of Biblical base for the purpose of meeting the needs of individuals and the building of the body of believers.
