Ace Rental Place
Sometimes, you only need to use something once, you don't want to have to spend the money to buy something for one use, but you know that the job needs done. That's what we're here for. We provide tools and equipment to help you do whatever needs done, from cleaning supplies, to power tools, to construction equipment.

Ace Service Shop
There are a number of places that sell power equipment, but if something goes wrong, you want a place that won't just send your product away to get it fixed, or worse, just give you a phone number to call. At Paitson Bros. Ace Hardware, we service what we sell. Our service shop is staffed with experienced and certified technicians, so you can know that your equipment is in good hands.

Ace Blade and Chain Sharpening
Our services for your power equipment don't just get broken equipment working again; we also help to keep your lawn mower and chain saw blades sharp. We have a computerized chain sharpening machine set up, in order to ensure that your chains are sharpened with precision. If you'd rather not take the blades off your equipment, for an extra charge, we can do that for you as well.

Ace Delivery Service
When buying or repairing large items, it helps to have someone there who can get it from the store to your home. If you don't have a way to get things home, we do! With vans, trucks, and trailers, we have what it takes to get it there safely. And if you need your Zero Turn mower or Lawn Tractor serviced, we can pick up and deliver them as well.

Ace Computerized Paint Color Matching
At Paitson Bros. Ace Hardware and Rental, we carry a full line of Pratt and Lambert paints as well as a large selection of ACE Brand paints. We have numerous colors to choose from, or you can bring in a sample of the color you want, like a piece of cloth, and we can create that paint color for you with our computerized color-matching system. When you're done, we'll even save the record for you, so the next time you want more paint made, we'll be ready.

Now, you will be able to start your grilling with us, with a great gas grill, then keep grilling with us, with our numerous grilling accessories and propane tank refilling.

Ace Shipping Department

When you need to send something across the state or across the country, the United Parcel Service is ready and willing to help, and Paitson Bros. Ace Hardware is your local delivery center. You can bring in your packages already boxed and ready to mail, or come in and buy the shipping supplies here. Whether you want to send a package to the grandkids or need shipping for something you sold on eBay, Ace is the Place to get it shipped.

Driving Directions

From Terre Haute North Side
The majority of North Terre Haute is west of 25th Street. If you are in this portion of town, proceed east until you get to 25th, then turn right (south) on to 25th, which you will follow to Wabash. Turn east (left) on to Wabash about a half block to get to the entrance to Paitson Bros. Ace Hardware's parking lot (we're right next to Kroger).

If you started out east of 25th Street, take either 25th Street or Fruitridge to Wabash. Turn west (right) from Fruitridge, and we're about a mile ahead on your right, or about a half block ahead on your left if you came from Wabash.

From Terre Haute South Side
For many of those on the south side, taking 3rd Street (Hwy 41), 7th Street, 13th Street, or 25th Street north to Wabash Ave. would be the easiest route. Then, you turn east (right) and follow Wabash Ave. until about a half block east of the 25th Street intersection. We'll be on your left side, next to Kroger.

Others, who live further east of 25th Street can take Brown or Fruitridge north to Wabash Ave., where you turn left (west) and proceed about three blocks west of the ISU Sycamores' football stadium. We'll be on your right side, right next to Kroger.

From Indiana, but Out of Town
If you're coming from the north (Hwy. 41 or Hwy. 63), proceed south on Hwy. 41 or Hwy. 63 into Terre Haute, and turn left onto Wabash Avenue (Hwy. 40 East). About two miles east on Wabash Ave., you'll find us on your left hand side directly past the 25th Street intersection (look for a big water tower on your left). Coming from the south will still take Hwy. 41 to Wabash Ave., but will be turning right to get on to it instead.

If you're coming from the east, come into Terre Haute via Hwy. 40, which will become Wabash Ave. when you get into town. We're about two miles west of Rose Hulman Institute of Technology, and about three blocks west of the ISU Sycamores' football stadium.

Our History

When Bob and Stanley Paitson opened their garage and service center in 1922, they never could have imagined that their humble beginnings would have been the seeds for so much progress and lasting good relations with the surrounding community. After six years at 15th Street and 1st Avenue in Terre Haute, IN, the Paitsons decided to take their business down town to 12th and Wabash, where their family would have a presence for the next eight decades.

Their new location gave them the opportunity to expand from their previous focus into the hardware and heating business. By 1941, their services had been so successful that, when the opportunity presented itself for their next step in growth, they moved the hardware portion, Paitson Bros. True Value Hardware, across the street to 1142 Wabash. The heating and cooling arm of the Paitson Brothers' empire remained at the corner of 12th and Wabash, where it can still be found today - one of the leading Lennox dealerships in the nation.

As the years went by, Bob and Stanley's sons Gene and Jeff, joined the company, eventually taking control of the hardware and heating portions respectively. In 1950, Frank Paitson, opened up a third business within the Paitson Bros. family, Paitson Bros. Roofing and Siding (now directed by his sons, Bill and Steve).

Since that time, Gene passed the reins down to his son-in-law Ron O'Day, who relocated the store to 2700 Wabash in 1996, doubling the size of the sales floor, and initiated a change from a True Value to ACE Hardware, opening the doors to further opportunities of service.

The current owners, Chuck and Catherine Procarione, took over Paitson Bros. Ace Hardware and Rental in 2006, when Mr. O'Day retired from the hardware business after 25 years of service.

Having been employed at Paitson's for 15 years previous to his acquisition of the store, Chuck is committed to continuing the standard for Paitson Bros. quality service that the Wabash Valley community has come to know and trust for the last 85 years.
