Traffic on US 41 comes to a halt after an car hits a tanker truck.

Police say texting while driving is to blame for the Tuesday afternoon accident.

Troopers say Sullivan resident Jocelyn Sims was driving south on 41 when she collided with an anhydrous tanker.

In compliance with state law the truck was stopped at the railroad crossing outside of Shelburn.

Police say the accident is a good reminder to stay alert while behind the wheel.

"Obviously there are new laws placed within Indiana for young drivers but eventually we hope that it will come about for everyone on the road the danger anytime you have your attention focused elsewhere you are endangering yourself and others on the roadway," said Trooper Brent Robinson.

Both lanes of US 41 South were closed for about 20 minutes.

Sims was taken to Sullivan Community Hospital with minor injuries.

Comments

While i appreciate the underlying message of this story --texting while driving is a serious problem and Jocy's accident is a good warning -- I do not appreciate a picture of my niece on a stretcher with blood all over her. Not only is it in bad taste and an invasion of her privacy it is also incredibly unethical. Jocy has a 77 year old grandmother that was already upset about the accident and she did not need to see her grandchild like that on TV.
In addition, you did not even bother to get the story correct as she was not treated and released for minor injuries. She was lifelined to Methodist in Indianapolis for internal injuries.
So in the future please try to use a litle discretion when editing your stories - accident victims and their families deserve to not have to worry about having pictures such as the ones in this story plastered all over the television.
