Michael Allison faces 75 years in prison for five counts of recording law enforcement officials without their consent in Robinson, Illinois.

Illinois is one of the states applying old eavesdropping and wiretapping statutes to new technologies like cell phones or anything else that records audio.

Most states allow citizens to record audio in public of on-duty law enforcement officials without their permission.  But that's considered a felony in Illinois, punishable by up to 15 years in prison for each offense.

In a huge victory for free speech, transparency, and the public at large, the First Circuit Panel affirms the right of vigilant citizens to videotape police actions carrying out their duties in public:

Just common sense. The mainstream media's(old media's) coverage of this case just shows why no one listens to them any longer. Where's the outrage. Where's the study of the supreme law of the land, the U.S. Constitution that disallows this sort of behavior by the government? Seriously, does anyone honestly believe we need their consent? They're public servants in performance of public duties, they gave their permission and consent when they applied for the job. Criminal scum. The day is coming, Sic Semper Tyrannis.

It is NOT illegal to film police, the new needs to stop saying that! the eves dropping law can only be in effect for secret recordings, recording in public with audio is NOT illegal. Don't let cops tell you otherwise.
