The Lakers fell 12-2 to Lafayette Central Catholic in a Class 1A state title game that was much closer than the score might suggest.
LCC scored in the opening frame for a 1-0 lead before Shakamak struck in the bottom of the second on a 2-RBI double by Christian Burris.
The Knights would tie the game in the third and get out of a jam in the bottom of the frame, after the Lakers loaded the bases with no outs.
LCC would carry that momentum into the 5th inning, where the Knights would explode for 9 runs to take control of the game.
Shakamak finishes its season 27-7, while the Knights finish 31-4 and win their 4th straight state championship in Class 1A. Saturday also marks the third time that LCC has topped Shakamak in the title game (2004 and 2007).
Laker senior Brock Dowell was honored after the game as the recipient of the Mental Attitude Award.
