Shops with only outside seating say that once the heat reached the upper 90's, customers began to vanish.
And while residents might stay home while the sun is beating down, officials say they aren't skipping their cold snacks all together.
"The temperatures are affecting us pretty bad here, numbers are way down," said Dairy Queen manager Richard Sneeden. "We take a hit during the daytime hours, that's when we get hit the hardest. Once the sun goes down the people start to come out and stand in line a little bit."
Dairy Queen on Wabash Avenue in Terre Haute says they lose around 50 customers a day because it's just too hot to stand outside.
