Jake Odum Named First Team All MVC

Odum is the first Sycamore to earn First Team All-MVC plaudits since Matt Renn in 2001. It marks just the ninth time a Sycamore has appeared on the First Team and he is just the sixth Indiana State basketball player to accomplish the feat.

He joins an elite list of Sycamores that include: Larry Bird (1978 & 1979 MVP), Carl Nicks (1979 & 1980), John Sherman Williams (1985 & 1986), Nate Green (2000 MVP) and Matt Renn (2001).

Joining Odum on the First Team All-MVC list is Creighton's Doug McDermott, Illinois State's Jackie Carmichael, Wichita State's Cleanthony Early and Evansville's Colt Ryan.

Odum was a Second Team All-MVC selection in 2012 and was named to the honorable mention squad as a freshman in 2011. He and Jim Cruse, who was a two-time second team selection in 1996 & 1997, are the only two Terre Haute natives to ever earn All-MVC honors for Indiana State.

His spectacular season began when he was named a Preseason All-MVC Team member back in October. Odum became the 35th member of the Indiana State 1,000-Point Club, and is just the eighth Sycamore to do before the end of his junior season when he went over the mark with a 22-point showing on February 6 against No. 13/16 Creighton. He enters this week's MVC Tournament with 1,107 career points which ranks 24th on ISU's all-time scoring list.

He has made 172 free throws this season which ranks fifth-best in the history of the program and made 19 in a row from Feb. 9-19. Additionally, Odum has attempted 223 free throws this season, which is fifth on the ISU single-season free throws attempted list and needs 11 more to tie Howard Dardeen (1961-62) for fourth.

In December, he was named to the All-Diamond Head Classic Team following the team's 2-1 finish in the event which included victories of Ole Miss and Miami.

He leads the team with a 14.4 ppg average, which ranks tied for eighth in the MVC while his 14.7 ppg in MVC games only is seventh-best. He is averaging 1.5 steals per game, which ranks tied for seventh in the MVC and 234th nationally while his 1.5 steals per conference game ranks sixth. Odum's 4.7 assists per game average ranks second in the MVC and 85th nationally while his 4.6 assists per MVC game ranks tied for second. He owns a 77.1 percent mark from the free throw line which ranks 223rd nationally and his 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio is 120th in the NCAA and is fifth in the MVC while his 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio in MVC games ranks fifth. He is averaging 32.6 minutes per game, which is seventh-most in the MVC while his 32.4 minutes per MVC game ranks ninth. Odum has hit 49.3 percent of his field goals in MVC play, which ranks 10th.

He led the team with 21 points while pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out six assists at Ball State and again paced the team with 25 points, hitting 9-of-16 shots from the field and seven free throws to go with seven rebounds and four assists against New Mexico. In Hawaii, Odum scored 16 points with eight rebounds and eight assists against Ole Miss and had nine points with six rebounds and six assists against Miami while dropping a bankshot jumper with 0.8 seconds left to down the Hurricanes for third place in the Diamond Head Classic.

Odum's heroics struck again when he hit two free throws with 0.3 seconds to score 16 points and secure a 59-58 victory over Northern Iowa. He led the team with 22 points on the strength of a 7-for-10 shooting performance from the field and eight free throws with five assists and four rebounds in the victory over No. 13/16 Creighton, which is the highest nationally-ranked opponent to fall to ISU at Hulman Center in the MVC era.

He again hit the game winner with 19 seconds left in scoring 13 points as ISU downed Southern Illinois at home and went a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line in scoring 14 points at Bradley with six assists.

In the regular season finale, Odum scored 17 first half points, en route to scoring 20 in the regular season finale at Evansville.
