Little ones in the Valley get to show off their literacy skills to the community.

Saturday, The Indiana Reading Association Literacy Showcase at Terre Haute's Meadows
Shopping Center drew dozens of local parents and students.

Various Vigo County elementary schools showcased their students' reading and writing work.

Teachers say it's a way to show parents the success their kids achieved during the school year.

"They can be proud of what they're doing. Also, to know and to learn what they're doing in school is important to adults; that's something they need to know. It helps to bring everything together as a family and school," said elementary school teacher Debbie Smudde.

Teachers say the event is also a way to show the community the strides local students are taking in school.
