Shadow was the K-9 partner of Officer Brent Long, who was killed in the line of duty last July.
Shadow was wounded in that gunfire, and has since been retired from the department.
Now, he's nominated for the 2012 American Hero Dog Award.
Sixteen law enforcement and arson dogs are in the running for the award, which is presented by the American Humane Association.
Police Chief John Plasse calls Shadow an inspiration.
"But then you look at Shadow, and the good thing that came out of that was Shadow's still here. He's here on behalf of Brent, so that was comforting to see Shadow here," said Chief Plasse.

You can vote once a day, from now through June 30.
