Title IX Turns 40

The landmark legislation gives women equal rights to education and athletics.
When passed 40 years ago, about 300,000 girls played high school sports. Today more than three million participate.
Also, more women than men now receive bachelors degrees.
Career opportunities have also expanded.
Before 1972, women were often limited in the courses they were allowed to take in college and thus limited in the careers they could choose.
