City police have received other rewards from the same grant program.
Hogsett says the department of justice typically awards grants to agencies who properly apply for them and then spend the money wisely.
"It's just very encouraging to see our federal tax dollars that we all as taxpaying Hoosiers send to Washington coming back into our communities like Terre Haute," said Hogsett.
"Our track record has been very, very good and positions us for awards like this," said Mayor Bennett.
City police say they'll use the money to buy a boat to use on the Wabash River.
Police also gave $3500 to the Vigo County Drug Court.
