An annual run/walk in Valley honors those fighting for our freedom.
The third annual run for the fallen kicked off this morning at ISU Memorial Stadium.
The event began in honor of one of valley's own, Sgt. Dale Griffin, who died while serving in Afghanistan.
This is the first year for a 5k race that raises money for the Griffin Foundation.
Griffin's mother says it serves as a reminder of the many soldiers, like her son, who serve our country so that we might live free.
"Over six thousand flags in one place, it kind of stops everyone. You stop and you think oh my goodness every single on of those flags represents an individual. And then behind that individual is a family," said Dona Griffin mother of fallen solider.
"We've been really happy with the participation from the volunteers and all the people who are here to honor and to walk," said Oliva Goulding
Griffin's family uses the fund to give out local scholarships.
