Vigo County students celebrated the new school year this afternoon.

CHANCES for Indiana Youth hosted the annual back to school bash on Monday.

It was all food, fun and games - all for the chance to win some much-needed school supplies.

Organizers say it's a way to get kids excited about heading back to class, and students are happy to take part:

"It's a great time. I mean it's about community, it's about bringing together, having fun and just reaching to those
who may need a little bit of assistance," said Kandace Brown of CHANCES for Indiana Youth.

Fourth grader Kaleb Brown adds, "I think it's amazing that they're having an entire thing to start out the new school year. I mean, with all the backpacks, school supplies that you can get... I mean, it's awesome."

Officials also did a free car seat check-up at today's event.
