An ISU student who was trapped in a burning car on Wednesday remains hospitalized, but officials are congratulating a university officer on a job well done.

Officer Chris Heleine of Terre Haute has worked on the ISU police force for nearly 5 years and on Thursday, his boss is calling him a hero.

This just-released footage from a security camera shows the scene.

Mark McKinley suffered a medical emergency and drove into a parked car, and his vehicle burst into flames.

Officer Heleine is seen pulling McKinley out of the smoke and into safety.

ISU Police Chief Bill Mercier says his officer went above and beyond, and put himself in harm's way to save a life.

"For him to go in there and do that, it's just really outstanding work," said Chief Mercier.  "We have a really good group of guys and gals. They all do an excellent  job and I think that given the circumstances any one of them probably would have done the same thing."

The driver is listed in fair condition in an Indianapolis hospital.

Officer Heleine was back at work on Thursday.

Maybe we should waste more taxpayer money and make a statue of this guy also.
