VU- Great American Smokeout

By: Tony Grant
Updated: November 15, 2012
Smokers all over the country are being encouraged to quit smoking, at least for one day.
It's all part of the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout.

Members of the Vincennes University Student Government Association spent Wednesday recruiting people to pledge to not smoke.
SGA members also had a table set up in the Tecumseh Dining Center on Thursday to sign up participants.
They also collected seven bags of cigarette butts on campus in one hour.
Members hope the smokeout will at least raise awareness to the dangers of smoking.

Tiffany Cary- Student Government Association
"I think students need to understand how much of an impact it's going to have...how it's going to effect them later on in life. This is your health and it's going to effect the health of people around you as well. We just want to get the big picture out...how dangerous smoking really is."

According to the American Cancer Society, "By quitting- even for one day- smokers will be taking an important step toward a healthier life."
