Clay County Sheriff`s Deputy Resigns

Earlier Monday afternoon, Clay County, Indiana Sheriff`s Deputy Jon Lambert announced he is resigning. Lambert has been in jail since holding police on a 14 hour stand-off back in September. He faces criminal confinement and sexual battery charges among others. He was scheduled to appear in front of the Sheriff Department`s Merit Board Monday evening but resigned shortly after 3:00 pm. Lambert had to be let go by the Merit Board or resign in order for Clay County to hire a replacement. Sheriff Mike Heaton issued a state of emergency to get a new deputy in place as soon as possible. With emergency, a person will be put in place temporarily, while the Sheriff`s Department looks for a new permanent deputy. The temp will be someone with law enforcement training. Sheriff Heaton wants to ensure people the department will continue to do its job and do it well. Jon Lambert had worked for the sheriff`s department since 1996.
