A Valley city could soon see heftier ambulance fares.

he Terre Haute Fire Department asked the city council for an increase on ambulance user fees.
If approved, the cost would increase about five percent.

Several city council members agreed with Terre Haute Fire Chief Jeff Fisher, who says the fees help fund the department.

"What this does is allow us to replace our fire equipment. People need to realize that when we buy our fire trucks, it's not from tax payers' money, it's all coming from these fees. When someone gets sick and you pay the bill, you're helping us fund the fire truck," said Jeff Fisher Chief of the Terre Haute Fire Department.

Also at Thursday night's meeting, a proposal to designate Fourth St. as a two-way from Poplar to Cherry.

The estimated cost for the project is $250,000. The council will hear more details at next week's meeting.
