INDIANAPOLIS -- The undefeated Indianapolis Colts expect defensive tackle Montae Reagor to miss a second straight game after he was injured in an automobile accident while on the way to Sunday`s matchup with Washington. Coach Tony Dungy offered no additional details on the injuries Monday during his regular news conference. A spokeswoman for Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis declined to release any information except to clarify Reagor was still hospitalized Monday afternoon. An earlier report said he had been released. Teammates said they were told Reagor needed stitches to close cuts on his face and hoped he would return soon. "I only know that he`s resting up, and I heard that he has a couple of stitches in his face," defensive tackle Raheem Brock said. "I have called him, but I guess he`s not talking to too many people right now. I`m sure he`ll call me back at some point." Dungy also said Reagor was not taking visitors and then ruled him out of the Colts next game at Denver. On Sunday, the Colts became the ninth team in league history to open two straight seasons at 6-0 when they beat Washington, 36-22. "He`s alert and he does have movement, other than that I don`t know much more," Dungy said. "I really don`t know other than it doesn`t appear to be an injury to any extremity." Reagor was not wearing a seat belt, according to the police report. Wearing one could have reduced the extent of the injuries, police said. Dungy often warns players about the dangers away from the field -- such as avoiding late-night confrontations, but wearing seat belts is not usually included in his normal speech. Some Colts players acknowledged the accident made a stronger impact on them than speeches by Dungy or state laws that require most drivers to buckle up. "I guess it`s a personal choice, but I have a cousin who`s a firefighter and he won`t let me put the key in the ignition if I don`t have my seat belt on," middle linebacker Gary Brackett said. "I think it does reinforce that point because a lot of times you overlook things like that. How many people wear their seat belt all the time?" Receiver Reggie Wayne was especially attuned to what Reagor was going through, having just lost his older brother, Rashad, in a traffic accident in Louisiana. "It`s tough. It just goes to show you that you`ve got to enjoy things because you never know when you`re going to be gone," Wayne said. While Reagor`s injury received most of the attention Monday, it is far from the only serious injury the Colts are facing. Safety Mike Doss, a starter the last two years who reclaimed his starting job when Pro Bowler Bob Sanders injured his right knee, will miss the season with a torn ACL, the Colts said Monday. Sanders has missed the last four games. Dungy is hopeful Sanders will return this week. Sanders ran several times last week, but did not participate in full-scale practice with his teammates and sat out Sunday`s game. "I would think he`d be ready," Dungy said. "I think he`s anxious to go, and imagine he`ll practice this week and be ready to go." Reagor`s absence could prove detrimental to a run defense that is trying to reassert itself after allowing a league-worst 5.2 yards per carry this season. Since joining the Colts in 2003, Reagor has started 45 games and had a career high 5½ sacks last season. Copyright 2006 by The Associated Press
