A plan to ban texting on cell phones while driving in Illinois could be breaking up in the State Senate.

Opponents say the proposed law would be hard to enforce.

Republican Sen. Dale Righter of Mattoon believes existing laws can punish bad driving caused by texting.

The ban could be voted on in the Senate next week. It's already passed the House.

Safety groups say texting is a huge distraction when a person is behind the wheel.
