Learning From Nature is a joint course with Indiana University Bloomington. This unique class is designed to immerse students in the study of permaculture in a beautiful setting. Students will be living as a community and spending a great deal of time outdoors during the course, enjoying many opportunities to engage with the natural world. This course is ideal for small farmers, gardeners, college students, and homeowners looking to reduce energy costs.
The course takes place at White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. WVC has 320 acres of certified organic agriculture cropland, a 5 acre garden dedicated to a Community Supported Agriculture program, bee hives, more than 50 alpacas, a swimming lake, a nature trail and woods for walking, fire pits for evening conversations and playing music, outdoor recreation and eating areas, and more. Students will be staying in dorm rooms and classes will be held both indoors and on WVC’s farm.
Students must complete an application and be accepted to register for this course. Enrollment for non-IU students is limited, so early application is strongly suggested. The course will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, contact Candace Minster at cminster@spsmw.org or 812-535-2933.
