Indiana State Police are warning Hoosiers about a phone scam that can put your credit card information at risk.

Southern Indiana Troopers say some residents have gotten phone calls from people claiming to be cable or satellite company representatives.

Police say the callers offer a continuing subscription or an upgrade in services if the victim pays one dollar and gives their credit card information.

State police are offering tips on how to protect yourself from phone scams:

- Never give out your social security number or birth date
- Never give out credit, debit, checking, savings, or investment information
- Never agree to send money
- Try to get information about the caller and alert police or the Indiana Attorney General's Office
