Spotlight on Crane-Canine Security 2

You've met Volt and Leo. They train constantly and are top flight canine officers for the security plan here at Crane.

We told you that they are cared for each day and are checked even when their handlers are not on base.

What do they do? A couple of examples. This is what might happen if a person in a vehicle was on or near the base in a suspicious manner and did not want to get out of the vehicle.

These canines are explicitly trained in finding ordinance or explosives. It has come in handy in a nearby community.

Canine Handler John Jeffries says, "One in particular, we had a call from a Sheriff's Department and there was reason to believe there's probably ordinance at an individual's home. So, they wanted our dog to give a search of the area and we did locate some items on that one."

Jeffries says if you are interested in this type of career the best thing to do is check out the security branch of any of the military services and you could be a part of the type of security force you see at Crane.
